This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

While many aspiring vampire dragons come outright with their hunting of their living brethren, the one known as Shrouded Death takes a different, more subtle approach inspired largely by Nocturne dragons. Taking the appearance of a dead hatchling whenever in the direct sight of any living being, it only reveals itself to truly be an animate being when its victim least expects it. The ferocity and swiftness of this creature's savage strikes is almost without peer.

There has yet to be a living human or dragon that has seen this hatchling's true form or capabilities first hand.
