Silver Dragons are arguably one of the most beautiful types of dragons. They live in high altitude habitats such as mountains. Male Silvers hunt and eat meat. While not as beautiful or radiant as females, silver males possess better physical attributes, such as strength.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Zachri considers himself a mediocre poet, at best. He is utterly wrong. On his worst days, he is a mediocre poet, and on the rest he ranges from good to brilliant. His style tends towards carefully elaborated-on images that he builds like towers made from cloud. His fondness is for nature scenes, but now and again an image of a dragon will catch him—the thinness of a wing membrane that allows the light to shine through or the wispy, curling shape of his shadow. His passions are pantoums and villanelles, poetry like the snake that bites its own tail.

What Zachri is less good at is people. He's usually very withdrawn and uncertain as to what choices to make. This meant that when the White Lauta caught his eye, all he knew to do was write poems about the silky edges of her feathers. Eventually she caught on and made the choice for him, charmed not so much by the grace of his words as by the gentleness of his heart. He thinks he doesn't deserve her, but in her opinion, he's utterly wrong!
