Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hanabito is an old, frail, and fragile creature that prefers to hide out in an abandoned cave in the center of the woods. Her very old age and the ailing sickness she bears caused her to become so physically and mentally feeble, and she seldom leaves her isolated and murky home. Hanabito is a highly inbred dragon; her inadequately-formed lineage is the probable reason of her illness. Despite her weakening state of both body and mind, the other dragons of her clan greatly respect her. Hanabito is a sort of teacher to hatchlings learning about important qualities, and she represents the hardships of life and is always obliged to teach it. The hatchlings who are sent to meet with her are taught about several issues they will eventually face. Hanabito seems to be particularly intrigued in teaching younglings more traumatizing things, such as death.
