Shadow Walkers are a strange breed that possess the ability to slip between the planes of reality, becoming immaterial. This allows them to hide in the shadows, either hunting from the concealment of near invisibility or evading enemies. Though they become corporeal to mate or to eat, they spend most of the rest of their lives walking in the shadows. Shadow Walkers are wary creatures, though on dark autumn evenings when the leaves fall to swirl in the chill, rain damp air, they may be seen drifting out from the shadows.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Poetergiest is one of the 'ghosties', as Java Tiger's Shadow Walkers call themselves. Poetergiest is a wise and peaceful dragon, though he is curiously old-fashioned in his manners and ways. Some argue that this is because he was born from the spirit of some great and cultured dragon who met his end due to tragic love. Though he disagrees with the superstition this tale represents, he has long ago given up trying to correct it. For himself, he would prefer to spend his time on other matters, and allow those whose minds are willing to learn to come to their own conclusions. IF one is that wedded to ignorance, he has long ago decided, then no amount of argument can help. His personal interests include books, especially poetry and it isn't uncommon to see him drifting here and there in places where these are stored. Despite his ability to disappear, he has a physical body and anyone who has seen him handling books and turning pages would immediately doubt that he is a ghost of any sort.
