Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Little Mayflower is very fond of sneaking up on small mammals and killing them with a single bite to the neck. Because she was frozen before she was able to grow up, she will not learn to burrow underground. She does kill by trapping her prey at times, but it is not her primary method of catching food. Mayflower has something of a short attention span, which doesn't really make her a very good hunter, but when she does make a successful kill, she struts around with her downed quarry hanging from her jaws.
