Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s extremely curious and seems to enjoy exploring the area around it.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Poom is a stout little hatchling, as curious and innocent as a newborn lamb. He takes great interest in the names and uses of plants around the neighbouring woodlands, and he often accompanies Sir Erbsalot on walks to collect herbs. Though usually very attentive, Poom is often drawn away from lessons by the lure of a pretty swallowtail butterfly or a new, bright tulip.
