Feisty and energetic, Whiptail Dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Often acting as a foil of sorts to his mate, Zaratha, Zarathar is remarkably calm—for a Whiptail, that is. He has a way with beings—particularly hatchlings—which is probably why he's considered a father figure in the eyes of many of his fellow Clanmates. When they need advice, they tend to turn to him. Zarathar dislikes conflict, and although he's not as good as resolving arguments as, say, some of the Guardians, he does his best to calm others down and keep the peace. Some wonder why he and Zaratha chose to become mates; certainly there were plenty of other dragons who would provide a better match for their respective personalities. Perhaps the old saying of "opposites attract" is true after all.
