Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Alucard was the first Vampire Dragon to come into the cave, and as he soon found out, he was not welcome there. The other dragons refused to look at him and snarled if he dared to come near their young.

Lonesome, he decided to create for himself a companion and, late one night, bit into an unguarded egg. Unfortunately for him, another dragon saw and chased him away, before kicking the infected egg from the cave. Enraged he attacked the dragon before going after the clutch of eggs. He managed to bite one and, before the other dragons could get it, he whisked it away to the back of the cave. It hatched into a small male which he protected and raised to adulthood on his own. Cain was the only other dragon in the cave her personally infected, but would not be the last vampire dragon. The only other dragons that tolerate their presence are the pair of female Marrow Dragons, who, like the Vampires, cannot have young of their own species.
