And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

HandsomeBalloon is a Balloon Dragon hatchling who is very good at swimming...well, floating. He needs to, since his father HandsomeWaterHorse lives in the ocean. HandsomeBalloon tries to spend as much time as he can with his father during the day, and only hangs out with his mother SweetBalloon at night. Every once in a while, his dad will hold HandsomeBalloon and take him underwater, briefly. HandsomeBalloon loves this the most, and never feels closer to his father as when he is under the water.
