Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s clear that night is its favourite time.

And look! It has grown wings and turned red on its back! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Faleh is not, and does not claim to be, the smartest hatchling alive. That title probably belongs to Valentia, who can actually understand the politics in the Cave and still dumb it down enough for the rest of the frozen hatchlings. Still, he finds it utterly bizarre how the dragons can calmly accept magic as an existing thing. It doesn't make any sense! Magic, from how the Magi dragons tell it during lessons, is pure energy aligned towards a specific thing. That, Faleh understands. It's short and simple. What he doesn't get, is how it works. When someone asked why that is, Faleh pretty much exploded.

"Magic doesn't work like everything else does! Words should not be capable of holding energy. It should not be possible to turn a pebble to a rat. Water should not flow upwards to make an arch—water shouldn't even pour into the Cave! It should have flooded the Cave, and the source should have dried up a long time ago! MAGIC. IS. WRONG!" Faleh yelled before breaking into confused tears.
