Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Paie hatched in a strange situation. A wolf mother had just lost a pup to bears, and sadly whimpered as she padded through the forest. Then she heard a cracking sound. Running to investigate the noise, she came across a small, baby dragon sitting in the rubble of a white shell. Startled, the uttered the only confused noise she could say, "Paie". The hatchling repeated, and the wolf found this adorable; So she took her in. Paie grew to be an elder in the pack, outliving even her adopted litter mates. Paie, as she called herself, only had two problems in the pack, she couldn't bring herself to kill. Attacking and fighting, yes, but never killing. So she allowed her pack mates kill the prey for her. The other problem was meat. She couldn't stand it. So she ate plants. Years later, she met a dragon clan, she was maybe 54 years old (young for a dragon). She decided to join them, but with one wish, she wanted to be frozen so she'd never be bigger then her wolf pack.
