Sapphire Dragons were so named for their brilliant blue-green color, which is reminiscent of the gemstone. This breed was historically hunted for their scales; even long after, they remain distrustful of humans. Normally a Sapphire is not very aggressive, but they will defend themselves vigorously if under attack. Their diet consists mainly of fruit, with smaller portions of large insects and other invertebrates. Males woo females with vocalizations similar to bird songs. Sapphire Dragons are very loyal to their mates, and it is not unusual that they pair for life.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ei'rink, who is also called Ei, has always been a very showy dragon since hatching because he would try to prove that he was a rather mature and stately dragon to the older dragons. This became his downfall, though, when the time came that he should choose a mate. He tried to woo multiple dragonesses, but none of the females were impressed with his arrogant and uptight personality. This aggravated him, and he distanced himself from the rest of the group. No one seemed to notice. No one except for an Arsani in the clan, Luovina. Ei would go about his way, bitter and resentful, not trusting of anybody, until he finally met Lu. On his first encounter with her, she was rather cheerful, which annoyed him slightly, but he said nothing. Day by day, they got to know each other better, and Lu's seemingly contagious attitude softened Ei's heart, bringing out another side of him. A naturally protective side. He became mates with her soon after, feeling it was inevitable.
