Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

HandsomePumpkin is a Pumpkin Dragon hatchling who doesn't get along with his parents. They are so wrapped up in each other that they don't really have time for him. He spends most of his time with his sister PrettyPumpkinPygmy who claims that she is a Pumpkin Dragon hatchling. He believes her that she is a Pumpkin Dragon just like himself, even though she is actually a Pygmy.
