It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

J-Hamza S'aar was actually given his mother's family name as his father (Hamza) didn't have one. He was found by his owner Kaoru in an old abandoned garden. She took him in hopes he would be a tamer ride she could actually take to town, unlike her other dragons.

However, S'aar turned out to be larger than the average purple dragon, and he had a heavier step and deeper sound. Because of this, he was too frightening to take into town.

S'aar is not at all sad about this. He would rather stay in Kaoru's Cave with the hatchlings, letting them slide down his tail and bounce on his wings. He enjoys watching things take action, but generally doesn't like being a part of that action. Easily bored, if nothing's happening in the cave, he'll go to the nearby fields to watch deer or hunt them.
