Storm Dragons are the masters of the skies. They are excellent fliers and land only to rest and eat. In addition, they have full control of the weather. They are very hot-tempered and easily angered. They will attack any human that bothers them, conjuring strong winds and dangerous lightning.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Tourmaline Moonstone is a prankster. He enjoys nothing more than creating a ball lightening "pet" that he uses to astonish passersby, delighting in making it bounce and sizzle behind them. He has developed an uncanny ability to shape lightening, and entertains his Weyr-mates with fabulous light show pyrotechnics. Although he is quite mischievous, he is also very serious about what he considers his "art". He has taken an interest in Fire Opal Carnelian, and is currently attempting to teach her to control her fire-making abilities in a manner which she can feel comfortable with. He thinks he may be able to create a light show par excellence with her help, when she overcomes her fear of fire, and he has no doubts that he will be able to help her overcome those fears.
