It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Cirque de Pourpre is a circus run by the broken for the broken. Armed with a wise and kind ringmaster, the troubled and abandoned dragons the circus attracts inevitably find peace within its tents, and not a single soul has ever been turned away from its doors.

...And yet, when the ringmaster appeared with this dragon in tow one day, some had their doubts. She was not like the others who had been rescued; she was half-mad, violent, still not adolescent but covered in enough scars to have survived a war. Even the most patient at last began to shy away from her... save for two. A young dragon recently come to visit the circus and a clown who had recently begun work there refused to leave the child's side. It was their dedication that caused a miracle to unfold; the beast began to speak, began to smile, began to feel affection. Now one of the circus's most beloved clowns, she is forever grateful to the ringmaster and her two friends--now her costars--for giving her a chance.
