Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Thorn, though he resembles his father, has both his parent's personalities; he prefers to be alone, as well as the fact that he's aggressive whenever he runs into other dragons. The majority of his diet consists of small creatures such as bugs, lizards and rodents, and a tiny bit comes from photosynthesis and soil nutrients. He lives in the mountains his mother patrols.
