And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.
It is whispered that this creature was birthed in a spot where lightning had fallen only minutes before, and the young thing does seem to possess peculiarities that lend support among the believing to this theory. He can frequently be seen scampering about on days when the ferocity of the weather drives even the mighty blacks into their homes, and the way his hooves strike the earth almost seems to generate flares of sparks. Some claim that this is all very understandable, considering the breed of one of his parents, but others yet swear that his abilities go far beyond those of any meager electric dragon, much less a mix.
