Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

His earliest memories were of human cages. Cold, hard metal bars and dark rooms filled with other hatchlings, stolen just like him. They had moved him into a room with one other dragon, a female, when he grew into an adult. After a while they showed no signs of being interested in each other the human injected chemicals and force bred them. She had been hatched like this and it seemed the humans were breeding for fighting dragons. He was released after that for some reason, maybe by a sympathetic human. He had wandered around for weeks before stumbling across a pack. He had noticed all the dragons there, of course, when they welcomed him but it was only when she ran into him, not on purpose he hoped because they had both been flying and it quite hurt, he liked her. Not loved her yet, but liked her. They started hanging out but he always kept his upbringing a secret. It would probably make her jealous of the dragoness he had had a hatchling with already.
