Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Once a healthy and happy pebble hatchling, Little Pebble That Could was subject to a cruel and unusual experiment that changed and crippled her forever. Rocks which she used to be able to lift up are now too heavy for her to even push. Playing with other hatchlings is exhausting, and she often finds that she needs to sleep after only a few minutes of activity. Despite her weakness, she will push herself to do what she wants to do until she is absolutely unable to go on. Luckily for Pebble, a white hatchling named Apoptotic Bleb regarded her as a medical curiosity and befriended her, and the two are constantly trying to find ways to reverse Pebble's disability and return her to her previous state.
