Dark green dragons, once they mature, appear to become an entirely different species. However, this isn’t true. Rather, they burrow underground and get nutrients from their vines. These vines are sometimes referred to as Dragon Grass. These dragons are very violent, and will use their vines to capture, kill, and eat anything that moves, as well as nearby plants. Luckily, their range is limited and they cannot use magic. Dark green dragons tend to be easy to spot since they usually kill all plants around them and thus are usually surrounded by a large clearing.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Pelt of Ferns is one of Phoenix's dragons. Despite being one of the Circle of Elders, she tends to be reckless, and her intentions are not always benevolent. Even so, her years have made her wise, and her insights tend to be correct -- in short, she is the kind of dragon who is likely to make daredevil attempts and actually succeed at them.

Fern serves as a watchman on the eastern borders of Phoenix's territory, and consequently, she is something of a mystery to the hatchlings, only uprooting herself and appearing when a meeting between the Circle of Elders is held. Most other times, she lives secluded from the rest of her clan.

Fern has had several mates in her life, but her most serious one was I'll Tear You Apart, a fellow elder. The relationship was a passionate and fiery one, but after one of their daughters, Misfit Predator, went wayward, Fern and Apart agreed that if their chemistry could create such a monster, it would be best if they didn't make any more.
