Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

One night, a Vampire was hungry and it ventured to a nearby clan for a meal. The clan's warriors were out or asleep and the Vampire came upon a pair of White dragons. Being asleep, they were easy prey, and that Vampire had a special hatred of pacifists. It drained the female dry, but then the male awoke and raised the alarm. The Vampire slew him, too, and just managed to reach the White couple's egg when the warriors of the clan arrived. The Vampire sank its fangs deep into the egg even as it was set upon by the warrior dragons.

Many lost their lives before the Vampire was destroyed. The bitten egg had turned cold as stone. The clan's owner left it out in the wild, where it hatched. Cursed was adopted as a hatchling by the Ientoshi Clan and now the dragons take turns providing him with blood (under supervision, of course). But despite their kindness, Cursed to Darkness still considers himself an outcast, unworthy of friendship, perhaps rightfully so. He is, after all, a Vampire.
