It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Lilac Gentleheart is the mate of Fletcher Surestance, and one of the three Flora Sisters. While not related by blood, these 'sisters' bonded closely as hatchlings while under the care of a human, and are now almost inseparable. All three of them are named after flowers, hence the nickname Flora Sisters. The other two sisters are Azalea Cleareyes and Adelaide Fontane.

Lilac is commonly referred to as 'The Fragile Flora'. She will never hurt another living soul if she can avoid it, even the plants and trees. When she does cause harm, either by accident or on purpose, it weighs heavily on her conscience. The way she frets and worries over her sisters, mate, and offspring can seem a bit smothering, but they know that she does so because she cares.
