Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Father Elk fills the cave with an echoing roar and the younglings squeal with fright and scatter behind rocks and young bucks proving their fortitude to one another. They'd all grown up with his stories of glory and danger, but the realism of his storytelling still tested their nerves. Only the bravest of them all could stand his ground right at Father Elk's feet when a story ended in a roar or a shower of rocks thrown from the pulverized ground.

Elk smiled, noting Turncoat's proximity. Only five feet away now. Even with the growing puddle under his shivering claws, Turncoat still impressed Elk. Soon Turncoat would win the admiration of his peers and the hearts of the quickly maturing females.
