Aww... It’s a cute baby drake. It’s very curious.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young drakes are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own.

This hatchling used to love to eat overripe fruit, particularly for the sweet juices. Once she found a stash of it stockpiled until well past over-ripening. After eating the fermented fruit, she was rather inebriated, wobbling in flight. She hit a tree and passed out.

An opportunist stumbled across her while she was out cold; he helped himself to so many of her scales that it was months before she could fly again.

Since that time, Sobearre has refused to eat any fruit that is not still hanging on its tree or bush; her diet is also much more varied as she will more readily seek out other things to eat as well.
