This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Among all the lively, active hatchlings, one was found that appeared to be dead. But he wasn't dead, and he even managed to grow wings before the poison that had turned him into one of the "Children Of The Night" stopped his growth. Even though he will never be able to produce poison, no one wanted him near the other hatchlings, because his vicious temper more than made up for his lack of strength. But Blodnatt, the vampire-loving Sunset Dragon, soon adopted him, and since then he has become friendly and kind-hearted...no, just kidding. He is just as quick-tempered, belligerent and sly as any good Vampire Dragon should be. But these days he only acts this way to please his stepmother, who is so proud of her "proper little vampire".
