Despite their great size and strength, Celestial Dragons are a peaceful breed named for their spectral, starry appearance. Little else is known about them, as they spend the vast majority of their lives partially phased out of the plane of existence through the use of powerful magic. Celestial Dragons are thought to assume their corporeal form only long enough to reproduce or to die; the rest of the time, they resemble living, breathing constellations, impervious to all physical and magical harm.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Despite rarely ever being seen, Nausus' story is a favorite among tired hatchlings and elder dragons alike. A long time ago, Nausus was exploring an old wooded country path when he came upon a witch's hut. The witch materialized in front of him and marveled at his starry scales. "My, how I'd love to trade for one of your scales!" she exclaimed, eyes shimmering with greed. Nausus knew the stories of dragons who had fallen for a witch's charm and tricks, and he would not be one of them. He promised that he'd think about her offer and come back soon. When he got back to the cave, of course he wasn't thinking about the witch. He wanted to get back to the midnight sky where he belonged as soon as possible. That night, the witch saw the dragon's form in the sky and became furious. "He lied to me!" Nausus watched her safely from his place in the sky and will return to earth sparingly, for that witch will always be waiting for him.
