Stone Dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

There are a select few in the Clan who have prophetic abilities of some sort, ranging from visions of the future to the uncanny yet useless ability to know when someone's about to sneeze. Nitai is cursed with seeing visions of stories and events that will never happen. When Mlagern crumples an idea and throws it away, Nitai will envision the world the little Magi intended to create. When Jarkazu abandons a composition, Nitai will softly hum the tune and sway peacefully. When a major event happens in the clan, such as a war being adverted or a female accepting a male's proposal, Nitai will spend a week living in the reality the alternate decision would have created. The cursed part of these visions is that they always end in horror. Mlagern's story ends with the characters dying in agony, Jarkazu's hymn turns into a high-pitched scream, and the alternate reality ends with Nitai seeing it crumble away into darkness. When his visions die, he often enters a catatonic state for days on end.
