Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

This dragon was the fiftieth dragon born into the Kave Clan. In the views of the clan the fiftieth dragon is sacred and must be blessed upon hatching. When he hatched he was promptly given the name Otvenedik, meaning "number fifty", and the blessing ceremony commenced. Once the ceremony was in full swing something dreadful began to happen. Otvenedik began yowling like a cat in pain and thrashing about, causing the blessing to immediately cease. Otvenedik, however, continued to writhe where he lay, and a violent transformation began. He turned a deathly white, then lay still. Most of the dragons thought he was dead. He did grow up eventually, thanks to Nabstas care, but his ordeal left him emotionally scared. To this day no one knows exactly what happened that dreadful night, but some believe there was a malicious Vampire Dragon working dark magic nearby.
