Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Dostivus is, in a sentence, a stern dragon who dabbles in the art of annoyance. Mlagern, the scroll keeper Magi dragon of the cave, is never allowed to write anything on the scroll without Icebell's scrutinizing approval, and this has lead to many dragons being crossed off the scroll and many logs having to be re-written. As Mlagern writes only in permanent ink, Dostivus ends up completely erasing everything the author has written with his magic and demanding that the young writer re-write everything he just did. This is also why the two zombie dragons of the clan are constantly being erased and re-written because Dostivus doesn't believe in their existence. He himself is an author of many books and logs on dragons, but because Mlagern keeps the scroll away from him as best as he can he must store all of his works in the cave's library where no one but the most determined try to find them, much to the delight of everyone ever born.
