Azure Glacewing Dragons are one of the largest breeds. They grow to overwhelming sizes; folklore tells of ancient dragons outgrowing even lakes and mountains. They are quite oblivious in nature, and rarely care for—or even notice—the presence of other, smaller creatures. When hungry, an Azure Glacewing might strike suddenly, securing a tasty snack. An adult Glacewing is often more commonly found in the sea than in the sky or on land, due to their enormous weight. However, come mating season, Azure Glacewings return to the forests in which they were born, so that the young have lots of game to feed on.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nerxalik was born in an isolated glacial land. Her parents were guardians of these glaciers, crushing anyone who threatened their land. Nerxalik was born with dwarfism and only grew to about the height of a decently-sized oak; whereas, her parents were the size of a small mountain! Due to her size, her parents decided she wasn't a suitable successor, so they had another child. Her brother, Azerihl, grew to be even larger than their father, and he was put next in line, above Nerxalik, to be the next guardian of the Azure Glaciera. Nerxalik was torn and started to tear down the glaciers, destroying the place her family held so dearly. Her father tried to kill her, but her mother prevented him and instead sent Nerxalik into a one-thousand year sleep. It is unknown whether it was her power or something more, but Nerxalik was hidden under the ice in a deep, everlasting sleep and won't arise until the curse is over.
