Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nodowa is tasked with guarding the doors to one of the Sylvain clan's caches of mana crystals. While this usually means several hours of just sitting or standing near the cavern entrance looking threatening, there are occasionally random magical mishaps that occur when crystals are not properly maintained. Every day brings another small chance that the fire mana crystals might spark, life mana crystals start making the nearby lichens grow out of control, or the water mana crystals flood part of the cave, and so on. Nodowa has since developed a system for patrolling each section of the cavern so he can discover any mayhem before it becomes a serious problem.
