Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Rathaldir means The Freezer of Time. Born in the harsh climate of winter, Rathaldir could never be warmed, no matter the care given to him. Though weak when young, he grew to be strong, but quiet, ever watching the world around him. It seemed that he had finally opened to the warmth offered by his mate, Aelia, and the Summer season promised new hope for them. However, all was lost, as their two eggs were stolen from the nest and vanished into he shadow of night. Distraught as their loss, Rathaldir lashed out with a fury across the land, freezing it and trapping in in a permanent, fixed state. No tree could grow, no plant could flourish, and no more dragons could be born. It wouldn't be until many years later that the one he loves and who loves him so, Aelia, would restore the balance and bring life again to Jalaysia.
