Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Frau Hulda is a vigorous fighter, particularly in defensive fighting. She is particularly protective of the young, both dragon and human, and is inspired to berserker fury by any abuse of a child or dragonet. While she is a ruthless and fierce battler, the humans in her territory revere her for her kindness in peacetime. There is a superstition in local villages that when a brave and just person dies, Frau Hulda comes and frees their soul for travel to its next body, or to the halls of the Gods, or wherever it is bound. Relatives will often leave a corpse out in the open on the first night after a death, so that Frau Hulda may come for the soul—and indeed, many have reported seeing the shadow of her great black wings as she flies overhead to pay her respects.
