Speckle-Throated Dragons are an active, playful breed. They are easily excited and rarely remain still, spending much of their time in the air. Living in groups of up to sixty dragons, they nest in open plains and at the bases of mountains. Their speckled throats are their most distinctive feature, as well as the loud, echoing call they produce to communicate with one another. Male Speckle-Throats have a small crest on top of their heads, which they can flush with blood to intimidate enemies and attract mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Pale is rather shy compared to other Speckle-Throats. He has a meek demeanor to him and prefers solitude to social company. When faced with an especially noisy or large group, Pale will become overwhelmed and attempt to escape the situation. He isn't totally devoid of social skills, however. In fact, when around his siblings, his inner Speckle-Throat comes out, and he takes on an entirely new, much more open and friendly personality. He is also very close with his Black Dragon relatives, whom he will occasionally hunt with (usually not successfully, given the very different styles of hunting) and fight alongside if a threat presents itself. Typically, though, he sees them more as protection. Whenever he's frightened or overwhelmed, he'll rush to his mother, Night, or brother, Ink, for support, adorably hiding under their wings for comfort. He's all and all a competent dragon, able to feed and defend himself without issue, he just can't handle large gatherings of strangers.
