When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Milanai lives in a massive lake known as Diluviare, which means 'water' in italian. Milanai was gifted with wisdom and intelligence beyond her years, and serves as an adviser to most of the clan. Using a fairly deep river that flows out to the sea, Milanai sometimes will swim out to the ocean, either for a few hours or weeks at a time. Obviously, Milanai's lake has also become the center of her clan's territory since she cannot leave it and no one in the clan really wants her to leave. Milanai also often helps raise the hatchlings when both her hatcher and Freyara are absent, usually by bringing them out to an island in the middle of the lake and telling them about the world.
