Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Golden Esmeralda is named Golden after her father and Esmeralda simply because the name is beautiful and unique, just like her. Esmeralda is very protective of all the young hatchlings brought into the cave. She is very kind and brave, protecting the hatchlings from any danger that comes near them. Many think she is a little too overprotective but her intentions are good.

During cold rainy days, she will lay down in her cave and offer protection to the baby dragons by extending her wings over them and offering her body heat to them, since they are not yet fully grown and can therefore be very weak.

She is very often considered a mother by the hatchlings that she watched over in their early days.
