Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

TurpentineDreamer is a Turpentine Dragon hatchling. He still has noxious oil on his skin and a bad smell, but he is very cute. Other breeds of dragons, and even humans, will spend some time with TurpentineDreamer because he is "just so cute" and a really friendly little guy. He can't help it that he smells bad, and he wished he could spend more time with his human owner, but she can't stand the smell for too long either.
