Turpentine Dragons are named for the oil that covers their scales. This oil resembles turpentine in odor and is mildly toxic; it will not kill but it burns to the touch and will cause illness in anyone who ingests it. Turpentine Dragons roam in large packs, often stealing food from larger dragons, though they are able to hunt for themselves if necessary. Many other breeds consider Turpentine Dragons to be pests, so they primarily breed among themselves.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Junjie is a son of Garjo and Xinme. His name means "Handsome Hero" in Chinese, since he's always been really brave. While his parents were unable to hold him, they showered him with lots of love to make up for the lack of touch. He's always been very brave, and is now one of the protectors of the colony. He is best friends with Xiaoli, Xiaobo, and Xin; but is the closest with Xiaobo. They often work together when chasing off larger rogue dragons. Their toxic skin really gives them the edge in a fight, since the other dragons can't really touch or bite them; for fear of being burned, or worse, ingesting the toxic goo. Together they have been able to scare off much larger dragons than themselves. Junjie is mated to Meifen, the love of his life. Since their skin is so repellent to other dragons, they really love having someone else to cuddle with. Junjie is fiercely protective of Meifen, and will never allow any harm to come to her. They are soul mates, and he'd do anything for her.
