Skywing Dragons spend most of their lives flying in the air. They hunt from the air, diving at prey from above, and land only to rest. They are some of the fastest fliers, capable of extremely high speeds. The webbing at the end of the tail acts as a rudder, allowing them to easily change direction during flight.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Amaterasu is a laid back and calm dragon. She is very caring and friendly. She loves to take care of eggs and hatchlings and does so magnificently. She often takes abandoned eggs to her own cave at the top of a high mountain peak, where she can watch over them as she flies and take care of them when she lands. She can be a bit of a doormat at times, and that shows within her own two sons Shin and Kyoki. She doesn't like their father Osamu at all, but she loves her children (both adopted and blood-related). She raised Fuhai shita after she was abandoned, along with Hiroaki, who she found injured and alone. She was dismayed when Osamu came a second time, and although she does love her unborn child, she is unhappy that the father had to be Osamu again.
