Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Growling loudly, Firestreak lands at the entrance to the cave. She looks at the hatchlings sprawled in a loose heap on the floor and blinks. They're sleeping. How odd! Usually they're so loud and wild. It's a good opportunity to get a nice nap. She curls her large, warm body in a loose circle around them.

Fondness fills her heart with its gentle touch. 'Such tiny things...Just like I was a few months ago.' There are no other adults in the cave yet, and she wonders when the oldest hatchling, Enterprise, will mature. Will he help her raise the others? Will he help her keep the peace between any factions that begin to divide the dragons?

She closes her eyes, thinking about the sky. When will she get to fly for pleasure again? There's so much resting on her shoulders. 'Can I rise to the challenges...'
