Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Lonefang has always had an affinity for music. As a hatchling, he would listen to his uncle, Shoker, strumming his guitar to a soulful melody. One day, he asked if he would teach him. The vampire was a fast learner and soon could play any song by ear. Strangely though, Lonefang has never shared his musical talent with the rest of his cave family. Instead, he hides himself away inside his chamber, writing and playing his music alone. Leaving only for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the vampire remained silent and unsocial to the other dragons.

So it came as a surprise one day when Star-Cross'd boldly confessed her feelings for him. For a moment, Lonefang was stunned. Gathering up his thoughts, he was able to manage a reply. "I'm sorry, but I cannot like you back."

He excused himself from dinner, leaving Star behind, hearing her beginning to sob.

"It wouldn't work between a vamp and valentine." He told himself over and over again that night, but was still unable to fall asleep.
