And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Maiden Merla the Pink is a very quiet dragon. After being picked up by the scroll-master, she was raised until she gendered, and then was frozen. Maiden Merla was perfectly happy with this, since she would rather not grow up and face the big scary world. She prefers being a child; it means that she can pal around with her other little pink friends.

Merla is also very shy. The only dragons she speaks with are Pink ones, because she finds the others very frightening. She is even afraid of Melek, the white dragon. Once, after scraping one leg, she went and hid for hours instead of letting Melek heal her. (Needless to say, Melek was rather annoying.) Merla has become a little more friendly around Melek since then, but she is still rather wary.
