Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

DarkDreamLord is one of the kindest Vampire Dragons in or around his cave, as kind as a Vampire can be. His cave found him as a tiny hatchling. They thought he was dying (and he was), but he revived not long after. As soon as they knew what he was, the Dragon Council convened an emergency meeting. It was decided that he couldn't be killed or thrown out. They were going to have to come up with a way to keep him, and the rest of the cave, safe. The healers of the Dragon Clinic, the Dragon Inventor DreamsTwoKnight and a number of the Magi dragons invented a magical object that could safely remove a small amount of blood. These were transferred to a magical balloon that DarkDreamLord can sink his fangs into. So he gets all of the blood he needs and a safe dark cave he can hide in all day, and the rest of his cave doesn't have to worry about Vampire bites in their sleep. They even allow him to experiment on some eggs to make a companion of his kind.
