Balloon Dragons are so named because they are filled with a gas that makes them almost lighter than air, similar to balloons. However, they are not prone to bursting, as they are covered in tough skin and can deflate themselves if necessary. In addition, they generally are slow moving. They use their gas bladders to float to the tops of trees, where food is more abundant. They can shift their weight from their backs to their fronts, allowing them to reach leaves and fruit.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Liver pound was aptly named as a hatchling for a running joke that when inflated, she would weigh less than a pound. It's probably not true, but truth didn't matter to the hatchlings. As an adult, most dragons avoid her like the plague, since her voice, affected by an unknown gas, is extremely shrill and harms the ears of all those who stand too close. She used to spend her days in her old clan, watching the other dragons live together in peace, and grew jealous but also felt that she was undeserving of the same sort of respect. Years passed, and she rarely spoke due to having no one to speak to. Her existence was reduced to eating, sleeping, spying and daydreaming... Her heart yearned for companionship and affection, but she was afraid of the dangers in the world around her.

Despite that, her heart won, and she took flight and left her pack, seeking a more fulfilling life. Eventually, she did find that place, only to realize she had forgotten how to speak.
