Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sakura was once a normal dragon, but then she was abducted by a group of flower faeries, who performed a ritual that turned her into a flower spirit and gave her eternal youth. She has a strong bond with cherry trees, and she lives in an orchard of them, where the flowers bloom eternally. She loves the sound of shamisen, and will give a perfectly preserved cherry branch to those who play the instrument well.
