Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. A cheerful beast with an unfortunate gambling addiction, Arkadael seems skilled in two areas and two areas only: making lots of money and then promptly losing it! Winnings of vast lotteries and recovered hoards of ancient gold are in his excitable paws one moment and then gone the next, with the gold's babbling excuses ranging from "I was mugged by mints!" to "I overdid it at the wishing well." While many of the well to do thus see him as an idiot and an airhead, they'd understand better if they opened their eyes; the poor and unfortunate in the areas he visits are always a great deal happier and a fair bit wealthier after he leaves.
