Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Lirr Flametongue is traditional and rather old-fashioned, but surprisingly flexible in his opinions.  While originally rather scornful of the idea of female dragons being fit to do much besides raise offspring, he's become one of Flagra Blazebright's staunchest supporters, recognizing her as being far more capable than her rather impractical mate Ategan Fireheart.  Lirr stayed with Ategan after most of the red dragon's other followers left because he felt that somebody had to look after those too foolish to leave.  He's since become quite attached to the other members of the close-knit community, and jokingly calls himself the biggest fool of all for becoming so fond of the weyr—dry soil, insufficient game, and all.  Lirr is one of the main hunters for Firebright Weyr, but has also been known to tend eggs and hatchlings when Yavi Gentleclaw is busy.
