Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Blossom of the Swamp was named before his caretaker knew he was a boy. Unfortunately, his caretaker refuses to change to something more manly like "Bear attack", "Mountain" or "Super Manly Awesomely Sexy Blossom of the swamp".

She firmly believes his current names suits him perfectly, being as he does have little pink petals constantly swirling around his body.
