Desipis Dragons are an extremely dangerous breed, synonymous with the paths of desolation they leave in their wakes. These gargantuan beasts are infamous for their innate ability to control and manipulate the minds of others, which they use to pulverize the sanities of their foes and forge false memories. This power is especially effective on the foolish, and only the strongest-willed individuals have been known to resist a Desipis’s cunning. Most who anger Desipises do not live to tell the tale. Desipis Dragons are especially feared for their uncanny power of absorbing the magic of others with the fire they breathe and converting it into the bright reserves of crystallized mana that decorate their bodies.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Isaiah Verboten is a Desipis, but not a Vorare by blood, so he is not considered a 'real' Vorare by many of the clan's blooded Desipis. In their minds, he is a member of the clan only by virtue of the fact that one of their own—Aquaregia, a gold dragon sired by one of the clan patriarchs—has chosen him as her mate. Although the Vorare consider Desipis in general to be superior to non-Desipis species of dragon, they are more accepting of Aquaregia as a 'true' Vorare than they are of Isaiah, a fact which makes Isaiah jealous. He sometimes wishes he could claim Aquaregia into his own clan of Verboten and name his Desipis offspring by that name—but he would never dare to actually do it. Isaiah is the only Verboten at the Breedery and he knows the Vorare would destroy him if he dared to insult them in that way. So he mutters and seethes but never acts against his 'in-laws'. He is badly smitten with Aquaregia and constantly works to impress her so she will pay more attention to him.
